Revopoint MetroX 3D scanner (Advanced Edition) – metrological accuracy and 4 modes
Revopoint MetroX (Advanced Edition) is a professional 3D scanner with blue laser and hybrid optics, designed for engineers, product designers, and quality teams who require metrological accuracy up to 0.02 mm and reliable performance on a wide range of materials. The model combines multi-line blue laser and full-field structured light in four flexible modes and reaches up to 7,000,000 points/sec (structured light) or 800,000 points/sec (laser mode). The Advanced edition also includes a Marker Block Kit – magnetic marker blocks (spheres, domes, pyramids, bars) that speed up setup and enhance tracking stability on objects with few geometric details.
Technology and quality
MetroX uses 14 crossed blue laser lines and 7 parallel for scanning difficult surfaces (black, shiny, low-detail), plus 62-line blue full-field structured light for extremely fast shape capture. It achieves single-frame precision up to 0.01 mm and accuracy up to 0.02 mm, while volumetric accuracy follows the formula 0.025 mm + 0.05 mm × L (m), which is typical for metrological solutions. Fused point distance up to 0.05 mm provides a dense cloud mesh for accurate measurements and smooth mesh remeshing.
Performance and workflow
In Full-field MetroX mode, it captures up to 7M pts/s, suitable for fast scanning cycles to CAD/CAE/CAM. In multi-line laser mode – up to 800k pts/s with high contrast and stable tracking on markers. The working distance is 200–400 mm, and the single-frame area is 160×70 mm (at 200 mm) to 320×215 mm (at 400 mm). The Revo Scan 5 MetroX software supports PLY, OBJ, STL, ASC, 3MF, GLTF, FBX and offers subsequent alignment, remeshing, and texturing. Color scanning is available in Auto Turntable mode, through a built-in 2 MP RGB camera. Tracking is based on Feature / Marker / Global Marker, which facilitates large and smooth parts.
Compatibility and ecosystem
MetroX works with Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and macOS 11+. Minimum requirements include Intel i7 12th generation or AMD Ryzen 7 5800 and ≥32 GB RAM (Windows), or Apple Silicon M1 Pro/Max/Ultra and ≥16 GB RAM (macOS). Recommended – Intel i9 12th generation / RAM ≥64 GB and NVIDIA RTX 4060 or higher. The ecosystem includes Dual-axis Turntable (automatic rotation and tilt), Marker Block Kit (included in Advanced), tripod/swing, calibration plate, and accessories. Export formats are compatible with leading CAD/CAM solutions (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Geomagic, QUICKSURFACE, etc.).
Design and ergonomics
The case is compact 209×88×44 mm with a comfortable grip and four hardware buttons for start/pause and settings. The interface is USB Type-C, power DC 12 V, 3 A. Field of view 43×33° and max. volume 1×1×1 m (min. 10×10×10 mm) cover from miniatures to medium details. The built-in 12 blue LEDs stabilize the exposure; outdoor scanning is not recommended. Available weight data: not specified by the manufacturer.
Professional scenarios
- Reverse engineering of mechanical parts – rapid scanning in laser mode, precise mesh → surfaces in CAD, reducing manual measurement.
- Quality control – comparison to nominal CAD geometry (GD&T), thanks to volumetric accuracy; suitable for non-conformance reports.
- Automotive components – black and glossy surfaces (spoilers, interior panels) with 14 cross lines and markers.
- Small products and jewelry – minimum volume 10×10×10 mm, fine resolution and export to 3MF/OBJ/PLY for rendering and printing.
- Cultural heritage – rapid capture in full-field for ornaments/reliefs, without contact with the object.
- Prototyping for 3D printing – direct "ready-to-print" models in STL and 3MF for slicers.
Limitations and best practices
- Difficult surfaces: in laser mode – use scanning spray on transparent/mirrored surfaces; in full-field mode – spray is recommended for black/highly reflective materials.
- Marker tracking: for laser modes markers are mandatory. Place ≥5 markers in each frame, irregularly at 6–7 cm, avoid excessive density.
- Safety: the projector is Laser Class 2M – do not look directly at the emission and avoid reflections from mirrored surfaces.
- Ambient light: outdoor/direct sunlight is not recommended; work in a room with stable lighting.
